Strawberries are ripe for picking. I love to eat them warm straight from the garden. However, if you wash them, rinse delicately and eat immediately. Strawberries lose their flavor when washed or soaked in water, and stored.
My favorite summer dish is balsamic strawberries in arugula salad. Stem and cut in half about 3 cups of strawberries. Toss gently with about 4 tablespoons of balsamic vinegar. Add some chopped mint — optionally. Serve on a bed of arugula tossed with olive oil. Very adult taste.
If you’d prefer, you can skip the arugula and serve over vanilla ice cream. Also a very adult taste. Delicious!
